Thugs and Dr. Dayo Ekong |
The Lagos State Labour Party (LP) has issued a strongly worded condemnation following the violent invasion of its secretariat in Ikeja GRA by armed hoodlums.
In an official statement released today, the State Chairman, Pst Dr. Mrs. Dayo Ekong, described the attack as a "cowardly act of lawlessness" that left the party’s office vandalized and innocent individuals, including an office assistant and her young daughter, harmed.
Ekong expressed deep outrage over the incident, labeling it a direct attack on democratic principles. "This criminal invasion will not go unpunished," she declared. "We are collaborating with security agencies to ensure every perpetrator—and their sponsors—face the full weight of the law."
The LP chairman emphasized that the party would not be intimidated by political violence, reaffirming its commitment to justice and the rule of law. "Those who think brute force will silence us are mistaken. We will not descend into lawlessness but will instead pursue justice through legitimate means," she stated.
Despite the attack, Ekong assured supporters that the Labour Party remains resolute in its mission to advocate for good governance and social justice. She criticized the assailants as "misguided elements" whose actions only highlight their desperation in the face of the party’s growing influence.
"Their thuggery exposes their moral decay, but we will not be deterred. Our focus remains on building a Nigeria where democracy thrives without fear or intimidation," she added.
The statement urged Nigerians to reject political violence and stand united in defending democratic values. Ekong also promised full support for the victims of the attack, ensuring they receive justice and necessary assistance.
In a stern closing remark, the Lagos LP chairman sent a clear message: "The Labour Party is unshaken. No amount of intimidation will stop us from fighting for the people’s rights and a better Nigeria."
The party has called on security agencies to expedite investigations and bring the culprits to book swiftly.
Signed:
Pst Dr. Mrs. Dayo Ekong
Chairman, Lagos State Labour Party
