Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) successfully rescued seven kidnapped victims in Riyom Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, following a decisive operation.
Maj. Samson Zhakom, the OPSH media officer, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued in Jos on Tuesday.
According to him, the victims were freed on March 7 after an intelligence-driven operation targeting kidnappers’ hideouts at Attakar high grounds in Ganawuri district.
“Our troops, acting on credible intelligence, discovered that some abducted individuals were being held near the Jos-Ganawuri road. Engaging the kidnappers in a fierce confrontation, our superior firepower forced them to abandon their captives and flee into the highlands,” Zhakom stated.
During the operation, troops recovered a bag containing a blanket and clothing items, presumably left behind by the fleeing criminals.
The rescued individuals have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are underway to apprehend the kidnappers.
Zhakom urged residents to cooperate with security forces by providing vital information that could lead to the arrest of criminal elements in the region.
