Why Badagry must produce the next DG of ASCON

Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) was established in 1972 and was gazetted through decree no. 39 in 1973 by the military government. The Administrative Staff College of Nigeria is sited in Badagry, and since its inception, no indigenous person from Badagry, which is the host community, has ever been selected or appointed as the Director General.

It is in this vein, after careful observation, that we are agitating for an inclusive Badagry in the helms of affairs and administration, especially in ASCON, as the case may be.

The introduction of federal character and quota system, especially special consideration for catchment areas in the Nigerian constitution, implies that ordinarily a Badagrian is long overdue to have become the Director General of ASCON, however, it is better late than never.

We hereby implore the federal government of Nigeria under the leadership of His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to treat Badagry with utmost importance, especially in relation to ASCON, and appoint an indigen of the community to head the institution. We trust in your capacity and judgement, and we hope that under your watch, Badagry will not continue to be subjugated and sidelined.

Badagry has been subjugated and sidelined over the years, both in federal appointments into ministries and agencies and as well as institutions. We, however, want a new dawn in appointments as Badagrians have more than enough competent hands to administer different government institutions and agencies.

For over 52 years of the existence of ASCON in Badagry, it is only fair to appoint a Badagrian as the DG for the very first time.

Badagry, a relatively peaceful environment with the Nigerian strategic border at Seme, is a significant part of Nigeria, which generates a humongous amount for the federation account from revenue accrued from Nigerian customs alone. It is equally a significant access way to other major countries in West Africa. Therefore, Badagry is a society that Nigeria can not afford to toil with. We are hopeful on the federal government doing what is right.

Thank you in anticipation for your timely response to do the needful.

God bless Nigeria.

Best regards,
