A Lagos State Chief Magistrates Court sitting in Badagry on Wednesday adjourned the case of an alleged fake lawyer's representing a client in court until March 13 for trial.
The Magistrate L A Layeni adjourned the case for the prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, to amend the charges.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a 47-year-old Godwin Eguabor was arrested by Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Badagry branch inside the court while appearing for a matter.
NAN reports that the Vice-Chairman, NBA, Mr. Ekhors Atule, said the fake lawyer had come to represent a client who was also in court.
Speaking, Atule said the case came for mention and amendment but was later adjourned because the prosecutor said he needed to amend the charges.
"The prosecutor asked for another date to enable him to amend after the appearance of NBA lawyers, the Magistrate the defendant for his lawyer.
"He told them that he called his lawyer, but he could not come because he wasn't around.
"The Magistrate told him that he is entitled to a lawyer and adjourned the hearing to March 13," he said.
Atule said that the NBA Badagry branch is ready to prosecute any matter relating to fake or unqualified lawyers.
According to him, any fake lawyer practicing among them will be exposed to the last latter, this is the stand of the present Executive Council of Badagry Branch of NBA
