Badagry Renaissance Movement (BRM) an advocacy group has called for Setonji David to become Lagos State legislative Speaker.
The secretary to the group Dovoeke Daniel said, "While rumour has it that the current speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Mojisola Miranda is under pressure to resign from her speakership position. It is only reasonable that Hon. Engr. Setonji David become the next speaker of the House of Assembly.
The recent turnaround of events in the Lagos State House of Assembly has brought the state House of Assembly to the limelight for internal crises within the house and has led to a rancorous leadership vacuum.
The House of Assembly unanimously removed the former speaker, Hon. Obasa, and unanimously elected Rt. Hon. Miranda. However, this singular action, which Hon. Obasa has since then perceived as an anomaly, has been challenged in court and has forced the house to proceed on an indefinite recess due to the recent confrontation that occurred between members of the house and the DSS operatives over a purported return of the former speaker to the house.
However, during all of the struggle, the Badagry Renaissance Movement urged for calm in the house and has noted that if the rumoured resignation of the new speaker is true, then we, the members of BRM, advocate for the shift in leadership of the House to swiftly move to Badagry.
It will be fair if a Badagrian becomes the next speaker since other divisions have produced the governor and the deputy governor. It will be a thing of joy to the whole of Badagry federation if their son rose to the rank of speakership.
Already, Hon. Engr. Setonji David (the chief whip) is a senior legislative officer who has been in the house for about a decade now. He has served in different positions and has continued to rise in rank. He is a gentleman and well-loved by his people. It will be a joyful moment in the Badagry federation if the leadership of the house is entrusted to him. He has displayed leadership capabilities in various areas and is vast in experience in leading the house.
Badagry Renaissance Movement, therefore, advocates for the position of the speaker of the house to be zoned to Badagry for a continuous and undivided legislative house.
We equally appreciate the effort of the president as well as other leaders of the party for their roles in resolving the crisis.
God bless Lagos State, and God bless Nigeria.
