The Association of Persons with Disabilities, Badagry Chapter (APWD), in collaboration with the Badagry Welfare Association of Deaf (BWAD), has presented seven-point request to National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN Badagry Local Government, seeking a meaningful partnership to promote Inclusion in Badagry, Lagos State.

This was presented at a courtesy visit to NYCN on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025, at the council's secretariat in Badagry, Lagos State.

Gboweh Gabriel, the NYCN Coordinator Badagry local government said "As the umbrella body of all youth groups in Badagry we run an open door policy, this is one of the things we have been clamouring for because in our community we have to work together to develop ourselves. These people felt they were part of the youth constituency as they deserved a better life."

Granting the No: 1 request of having representatives of people with disability in the executives of the NYCN, Gboweh said this is a welcome development as the NYCN is ready to accommodate all youths that are ready to be a member.

Sejoro Ekundayo Peter, the Chairman Association of Persons with Disabilities, Badagry Chapter, said, "The major purpose of this visit is the number five request, which is the demand for People with disabilities desk in the local government secretariat. Our goal is to advance the inclusion and prioritization of persons with disabilities within the NYCN organization and across the Badagry Federation.

He said that over the years, the people of disability community have faced exclusion from several programs and activities within Badagry. Every attempt to see the local Government chairman over time has not been successful, which the disability desk will address.

Sejiro added that he strongly believes that through deliberate collaboration, these barriers can be broken, which will enhance the creation of more inclusive society.

The team submitted a list of demands to the youth council, which is expected to be pushed to the local government chairman:

1. Permanent Disability Representation in Local Government and LCDAS Executive Councils

2. 5% Slot Allocation in Training, Empowerment, and Employment Programs

3. Skills Development and Capacity Building

4. Full Inclusion in Council Social Activities

5. Advocacy for a Disability Desk in Key Government Institutions

6. Support for Disability Events and Empowerment Initiatives

7. Compliance with Disability Laws and Policies.
