Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, immediate past House of Representatives Member Representing Badagry Federal Constituency and the chairmanship aspirant for Badagry Local Government under All Progressive Congress (APC), has said he will transform Badagry tourism if he emerges as the local government chairman come 2025 chairmanship election.
He disclosed this to journalists on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025, at Ajido Paka Cultural Exhibition, held at Ajido, Badagry, Lagos State.
Hounpe said the people of Badagry should go and relax, as the tourism industry will witness a transformation if he emerges as the local government chairman.
He said it is only the Badagry people that can make the expected changes in the tourism sector before investors will key into it.
Badagry, being a coastal area, we are blessed with a rich culture, which is a lucrative tourism potential that we need to improve. No one will do it for us we need to start it ourselves before the world keys into it.
I have lots of programs for tourism and culture. I am pleading with my people to Fi Ọkan balẹ (calm down) when we get there, we will unveil a lot for Badagry people.
This is not a mere talk we are going to work tirelessly towards whatever we say," said.
Badagry, being a prominent community hosting various tourist attractions and the people with rich culture and traditions, has over time witnessed little or no support or promotion from the local government in recent times.
Recently the Badagry slave route was identified as a UNESCO historic site, which is a plus to tourism development in Badagry, but over time the site has witnessed little or no development.
