NYCN Olorunda commemorates National Youth Day trains youths

The National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN Olorunda LCDA has commemorated National Youth Day 2024 by organizing leadership training program to raise awareness on key principles for success.


The event tittled: Educated and skilled Africa for the 21st century, was held on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Olorunda Local Council secretariat, Badagry, Lagos State.


Out of the 26 organizations registered under the NYCN Olorunda branch, 19 were represented at this program, the event is the first program organized by Balogun Sodiq Abímbólá, after his emergence as the NYCN coordinator for the Local Council.



Balogun Sodiq Abímbólá, the Coordinator, NYCN Olorunda urged the youth of Olorunda to become catalysts for automatic transition, emancipation, and development. "Together, we can drive a powerful agenda for Olorunda, reposition NYCN within the community, empower the youth, advocate for their rights, and transform Olorunda into the thriving community we all envision."


He told News Peddlers that "Initially, we planned to gather 100 youths and provide them with essential skills, particularly in the tech field and how to overcome environmental challenges. However, to our pleasant surprise, we had around 400 interested youths. Unfortunately, we had limited sponsorship, with the only support coming from the Chairman of Olorunda LCDA. Had there been additional external sponsors, the impact of the program could have been even greater.



"The youth should avoid destructive behaviors such as drug abuse and cultism, and to restrategize in order to make meaningful use of their lives," he added


Moshood Sebasi, Representative of the Academic Excellence Initiative, said through this program, I have gained valuable insights on critical topics such as resisting drug abuse, enhancing security awareness, and navigating market demands effectively. I also learned the importance of the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound) in goal-setting.


Comrade Fuad Akani Baju, General Secretary, NYCN Olorunda LCDA said, having served in both the previous and current administrations, I can confidently say that the agenda of this new administration is to build upon the legacy of the past while making significant improvements. We are committed to improving various aspects of our approach, involving more communities and organizations, and continuing to invest in the development of our youth.


NYCN aims to reach out to every youth in every community. He urges the youths to be part of the organization in other to be part of the decision making process.


"The youths should join NYCN, as it provides a unique opportunity for personal growth and involvement in decision-making processes. It is a nationally recognized platform that offers a voice and impact in the broader Nigerian youth community," he added
