The Ado-Ekiti magistrate's court set bail conditions for activist Dele Farotimi, which included two sureties with homes or other assets and a N30 million deposit.
The court also imposed a gag order on Mr Farotimi, who has been in detention since he was seized from his Lagos home by the police on a defamation complaint from senior lawyer Afe Babalola earlier this month.
Many have characterised Mr. Farotimi's case as the most heinous abuse of power under President Bola Tinubu, who pledged to uphold constitutional rights in his role as president, and it has continued to spark national and international outrage.
An hour after the matter was called, Mr. Farotimi was granted bail after being escorted into court by a sizable contingent of police and other security personnel on Friday morning.
The activist was also ordered to surrender his passport as part of the bail requirements, which other social critics, such as Omoyele Sowore, have denounced. The activist's book about Mr. Babalola's corrupt influence on the Nigerian judiciary has become a worldwide bestseller.
