Army Veteran rejects adulterated Legion

By: Manoah Kikekon

Hon. Olumayowa Akogun-Abudu, a military veteran, has said the army veteran has stood against the adulterated Legion group.

He disclosed this in a speech made available to News Peddlers on Thursday, 5th of December 2024.

The speech reads: The Nigerian Legion is an association established to cater for the welfare of retired military veterans. Its primary mission and purpose are to promote the welfare of ex-servicemen, foster comradeship amongst them, and ensure they receive the recognition and support they deserve.

The Legion's objectives include:

Unity and Comradeship: Uniting all who have served in the Nigerian Armed Forces and fostering a spirit of comradeship and mutual help among members.

Welfare and Support: Assisting members in need, providing financial support, and helping with employment and settlement.

Memorial and Remembrance: Perpetuating the memory and deeds of fallen members of the armed forces and promoting the welfare of their dependents.

Advocacy: Ensuring that the government and other employers give preference to ex-servicemen in employment matters.

Unfortunately, the Legion's mission and purpose have been compromised by some individuals who have infiltrated the organization. These individuals have recruited civilians to pose as military veterans, allowing them to extort government funding. This has led to the absence of genuine military veterans at important events, such as the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The elite military veterans are calling for government intervention to restore normalcy and sanity to the organization. They demand that the government take action to:

Investigate: Investigate the allegations of impersonation and extortion.

Restore Order: Restore the Legion's original mission and purpose.

Ensure Accountability: Ensure that those responsible for the compromise are held accountable.

The Nigerian Legion's core values and standards must be upheld to ensure that the organization continues to serve its purpose and support the welfare of retired military veterans.
