The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered publishers to stop production and distribution of the book titled, “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System” authored by embattled lawyer, Dele Farotimi.
The order, which was requested by legal legend Afe Babalola, also called for royalties to be seized and for Amazon and other online retailers to stop distributing the book.
The order, suit no. CV/5372/24, was filed on December 6, 2024, by Kehinde Ogunwumiju, Head of Mr Babalola's Chambers.
"An interlocutory injunction prohibiting the defendant/respondent, whether acting alone, through his employees, servants, privies, representatives, agents, publishers, distributors, sellers, re-publishers, re-sellers, or any other person however described," the order read. This includes Amazon Online Bookshop, Rovingheights Bookshop, Booksellers bookshop, Jazzhole Lagos Bookshop, Glendora Bookshop, Quintessence Lagos Bookshop, and Patabah Books Limited. An interlocutory injunction order ordering the confiscation of all hard copies of the defendant/respondent's book, "Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System," wherever they may be.
Mr. Farotimi's book was ordered to be seized after it reportedly shot to the top of the global politics bestseller list on Thursday for the multinational tech and retail behemoth Amazon.
.The controversial book detailed, among other things, how Mr Babalola allegedly manipulated the judiciary to obtain favourable decisions for his clients.
