Grace Chukwufumanya Ndobu (AKA: Sustainable Naya), Founder, Acerecycles Enterprise, remains an important personality in circular economy sensitization campaign in Uvwie Town, Delta State, from May 28-29, 2024. The campaign aimed to educate and empower young students to become champions of sustainable waste management and circular economy practices.

In a recent report, she highlighted her activities in the state:

Addressing the Challenge:

Poor waste management and lack of circular economy awareness plagued Uvwie Town. To address this, I targeted 1000+ young students in Don Domingos School, Osubi Secondary School, and over 300 girls in Our Lady's Girls School.

My Innovative Solution:

Through Acerecycles, I conducted:

- Interactive sessions on waste management and circular economy

- Waste bin provision and pad distribution to 300 girls

- Collaborations with local organizations and schools for community ownership and sustainability

Key Highlights:

- 8 waste bins provided to 4 schools ensured sustainable waste management practices

- 300 pads distributed to girls in need

- Interactive sessions engaged students and promoted discussions on waste management and the circular economy.

- Partnering with local organizations and schools ensured community ownership and sustainability.

Additional Activities:

- Organized a community clean-up event, engaging 500 residents in waste collection and disposal.

- Established a recycling program in partnership with local businesses, diverting 200kg of waste from landfills.

- Developed a comprehensive guide on sustainable waste management for schools and communities.

- Conducted a baseline survey to assess waste management practices and awareness

- Trained 20 teachers on integrating circular economy into their curriculum

Lessons learnt and best practices:

- Engaging local stakeholders and partnering with schools enhanced campaign success.

- Interactive sessions and resource provision effectively raised awareness and promoted behavioural change.

- Providing waste bins ensured campaign sustainability.

- Community involvement and ownership are crucial for long-term impact.

Conclusion:

I am proud of my achievements and believe this is just the beginning. I recommend replicating this campaign to amplify its impact. Tgether, we can create a more sustainable future for all.

Recommendations:

- Scale up the campaign to reach more schools and communities.

- Establish a sustainable waste management model for replication nationwide

- Collaborate with international organizations to share best practices and amplify impact.

- Develop a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess campaign effectiveness.
