Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic scholar, has stated that he is willing to engage the terrorists who kidnapped 287 schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in Kaduna's Chikun local government area.
In a press statement issued by his media team, Gumi expressed his desire to facilitate extensive negotiations between the federal government and bandits in order to secure the release of all abducted Nigerian citizens.
SaharaReporters reported that terrorists kidnapped the students last Thursday, and the government has yet to secure their release.
However, Sheikh Gumi proposed that the government use the same method used to recover
However, Sheikh Gumi proposed that the government follow the same procedure used to recover the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers kidnapped on March 28, 2022, while on their way to Kaduna.
He also urged President Bola Tinubu's administration not to repeat the mistakes made by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who refused to negotiate with the bandits.
His statement reads, "The government's stance of no negotiation with the bandits is an unfortunate one. My advice is that the government should engage in dialogue with the bandits about all cases, not just the abduction of Kuriga schoolchildren.
"Also, the government should take the same approach it used to release passengers kidnapped on the Abuja-Kaduna train in 2022 to free the Kuriga schoolchildren and others.
“I am ready to lead a holistic dialogue between the government and bandits. It is a religious duty for me to do so for peace.
“I hope the present government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will listen by dialoguing with the bandits because the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari refused to do so.”
