Hon. Princess Sesi Ogungbe-Yusuf, Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Badagry-West LCDA, has promised to continue from where the Chairman, Hon. Joseph Gbenu, stops if nominated to contest the 2025 Chairmanship Election under the APC.
Ogungbe-Yusuf made the promise during her birthday anniversary celebration at Sultan Beach in Badagry, on Tuesday.
According to her, she believes in the ideology of President Bola Tinubu, who says politics is about continuity.
"I will follow Hon. Gbenu's footsteps, making welfare of the workers and people my priority, and also build classrooms in schools, markets, and hospitals. I will try to continue with his administration work and ensure I do better to put smiles on the faces of the people in my council. I will accommodate more women in the council and ensure that the lives of children and women are taken care of," she said.
"Another important part of my agenda is attracting investors to the area to create job opportunities for youths in the area and increase the council IGR. In Badagry West, we only have Suntan Beach as our major IGR source, I hope to increase it by bringing in major companies, especially now that our road is becoming better to invest in Badagry West." Said Ogungbe-Yusuf
Ogungbe-Yusuf said she had been in politics since her youth because her father was a politician who believed in the welfare of the people.
"My father was a great politician during his time. He was always with the late Chief Obafeni Awolowo and former governor of Lagos, the late Alhaji Later Jakande. He was a councillor during UPN period in Lagos, he taught me how to play politics, and I believe I took after him.
"This is not my first time in politics, I contested for the House of Assembly many years ago, once the Special Assistant to former Hon. Joseph Bamgbose, when he was the chairman of our council, and I have served two times as Supervisor for WAPA to the incumbent chairman. If the people and the party give me the chance in 2025, I will not disappoint them," she said.
Ogungbe-Yusuf used the avenue to empower 20 widows from the three councils in the Badagry division, She said, "Birthday anniversary celebrations are not about eating and merrymaking. It is also an avenue to put smile on people's faces."
She further said, "I am using this occasion to empower 20 widows within the three councils, my widow's mite is not to make them rich overnight but to help them cushion the effects of the hardship we are going through in the country. I believe they will use the money to buy more goods for their shops and put smiles on their faces," she said.
Speaking at the event, Taibat Ladipo, the Apex APC leader in Badagry Federation, said men should allow women to contest 2025 chairmanship election because, for the past 30 years, the chairman has been a man. "Sesi Ogungbe-Yusuf is a woman of the people. If given the opportunity, she will perform very well. I wish her many happy returns on her birthday, and I pray that God will continue to give wisdom to achieve her wish," she said.
Alhaja Mojisola Adeshina, an APC woman leader in Olorunda LCDA, described her as a faithful politician who wants the best for her people. "The development of people in Badagry-West LCDA in particular and Badagry division in general was the concern of Ogungbe-Yusuf desire."
