Precious Oberuwo, winner of Most Beautiful Girl in Badagry |
Precious Oberuwo, a 20-year-old Mass Communication student at Lagos State University, won the Most Beautiful Girl pageant in Badagry, Lagos State.
The event held in December 2023, highlighted the beauty, grace, and intelligence of Badagry Division's young women.
Oberuwo was overjoyed, saying, "I am humbled and honoured to have been chosen as the winner of the fifth MBGB Pageant." Winning anything is exciting. This platform will enable me to make a positive contribution to society.
"I intend to inspire and motivate youth, women, and young girls who possess talent but lack financial resources. So, I'd like to promote such talent," she said.
Favour Paul, a 22-year-old university admissions applicant, became the first runner-up, while Saimodi Success, a 15-year-old Senior Secondary School student at Yintab Private Academy in Ikorodu, was named the second runner-up.
Oberuwo recounted her experiences before and after the pageant, saying that her sister sent her the pageant poster and urged her to participate.
"My elder sister first sent me the MBGB graphic poster. She advised me to participate in the pageant. I always wanted to participate in a pageant when I was younger, but I didn't have enough motivation at the time. Furthermore, there were no pageant competitions around me. I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a pageant model by participating in the competition."
Regarding the challenges, the Delta native stated, "There were a few challenges during the pageant preparation. Although I already had a passion for modelling, financial support was insufficient, there was no sponsor for me, and I considered quitting at one point. But I considered all of the payments I had made, from registration to audition and other minor details, and decided to proceed, hoping to get some assistance later on.
"My mom later decided to help me with some funds, which is how I was able to complete some of the necessary tasks before the contest. During the preparation process, I also prayed and fasted for two days in order to win the Crown of the Most Beautiful Girl in Badagry (MBGB), which I eventually did," the born and raised Badagry winner stated.
Favour Paul, a 22-year-old university admission seeker, emerged the first runner-up in the MBGB Pageant, while Saimodi Success, a 15-year-old Senior Secondary School student at Yintab Private Academy Ikorodu, emerged the second runner-up in the intense competition, in which other young contestants demonstrated exceptional talent and poise throughout the pageant.
Boluwatife Hundenu won the Best Model MBGB 2023 award.
The MBGB Pageant, led by Mrs. Chinyere Mmobuosi, has clearly served as a platform to empower young women, promote cultural diversity, and advocate for positive social change. Mmobuosi stated that the pageant aims to celebrate women's beauty and intelligence while providing opportunities for personal and professional development.
Oberuwo accepts the responsibility that comes with being crowned the 5th Edition winner. Her tenure as MBGB promises to be filled with meaningful projects, community involvement, and a commitment to empowering women in Nigeria and beyond.
