National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN Badagry, Local branch to celebrate International Youth Day and educate youths on Green skills.

NYCN will celebrate International Youth Day on August 19th, 2023, at the Youth Centre, Badagry GRA, Lagos State.

Com. Gbowe Sedewhe Gabriel, the coordinator National Youth Council of Nigeria NYCN Badagry Central, said the youth council will visit the correctional centre on the 17th of August to commence international youth day.

"We found out that some of our youth are there as inmates who have lost their hope to live as free people. We want to have some sections with them to give them renewed hope."

A community service will come up the following day, the youth group will clean some major public places in Badagry.

Gbowe said, "We will have most of the political representatives of Badagry constituency present at the International Youth Day Symposium. The youth of Badagry should be expecting the unexpected because the day will be fully loaded," he added.

Popoola Faith, the Deputy Coordinator of NYCN Badagry Central, said the celebration of International Youth Day can be compared to other days we celebrate.

"The celebration of International Youth Day holds the same importance as other days we celebrate, it gives a sense of belonging in society, and this is celebrated all over the world."

She also confirmed the statements of Gbowe, saying that, this program is going to be a three-day program. Day 1 is to visit the correctional centre, where we'll have to talk with the people there and sensitise them. Day 2 will be for coming together to clean up major places in Badagry. Day 3, which is the main event, is to enlighten the youth on social change to make a positive impact in society.

"As we all know, youth are the leaders of today, and whatever influence we can pass on will live on for generations. This is to make the youth know that they matter.

Popoola, who is now Lagos Youth Ambassador, said the opportunity came to her because she is a member of the youth council through this NYCN.

"I have had the opportunity to be part of the youth ambassadors, which has allowed me to contribute positively to the growth of Badagry. I believe everyone is a changemaker, and this should be an avenue for the youth to learn to love the community, without love, we will not grow."

Adding that is an opportunity for the youths to come together to brainstorm and help each other, to recover the unity we have lost, and to be the change in your community in whatever little way you can.
