Ashade Abdulsalam qualifies for Africa Cleanup Award

Ashade Abdulsalam Abiodun, the Executive Director of Green Janitors and Coordinator, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Olorunda Local Branch, received an award of recognition at the 7th African Clean Up Conference and Awards.

The award was held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, in partnership with the Edo State Ministry of Environment and Sustainability/Department of Climate Change and the Federal Ministry of Environment, Abuja-Nigeria.

The award category seeks to recognise individuals and organisations that have contributed positively to environmental sustainability and nation-building. It was themed The Climate Change Agenda, held at Precious Royal Palms Hotel, Benin City, Edo State.

The letter sent to him stated, partly,: On behalf of the management of African Cleanup Initiative (ACI) and the Advisory Committee of the Africa Cleanup Awards, I am delighted to inform you that you have been selected to receive an award at the Africa Cleanup Awards for Excellence scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria, on Saturday, 26th August 2023 at the Precious Royal Palms Hotel, Benin City, Edo State.

In an interview with our correspondent, Ashade said, "I felt very elated that what we are doing so far in Badagry, Lagos State, has been noticed. It is a happy moment for me and testimony that Badagry has been projected through Green Janitors. 

"It was a joy-filled experience for me to be an awardee with the likes of Engr. Dr. Felix Odimegwu, Commissioner for Environment, Anambra State, Prof. Okeke Gerald Ndubuisi, Dr. Femi Idowu-Adegoke (MCIWM), and a host of others," he said.

He appreciated ACI for finding him worthy of the award. "It is an encouragement for us at Green Janitors to keep advocating for a sustainable environment."

Ashade dedicated the award to every youth working towards sustaining the environment and nation-building.

"I want to encourage Badagry youths to be consistent with whatever they do and make sure they have passion for it and that it's creating value," he added.
