18-passenger bus involved in road crash |
Fourteen people have been confirmed dead and nineteen injured after a fatal road crash at Age-Mowo, along the Lagos-Badagry motorway, in the early hours of Sunday.
Two tippers and one 18-passenger bus were reported to have been involved in the accident, the passages were alleged to have come from Makoko area of the state, going to Seme border.
An eyewitness told News Peddlers that the bus was trying to overtake the tipper when it got trapped in between the two tippers.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Badagry Unit Commander, Williams B. Manga, told News Peddlers in a telephone conversation that "the total number of the people involved in the accident was 24, where 14 were confidently dead, 9 were injured, and the driver of the tipper survived without injuries."

He pointed out that the accident was caused by the bus overspeeding, and as the rain was falling, the roads were already slippery.
"The bus driver was overspeeding, and as rain was falling, that was why he could not control the vehicle."
The injured victims were taken to Badagry General Hospital for treatment, and the dead were kept in the Mortuary.
Williams said that "During this rainy season, people need to work on their tyres, if the road is wet, their tyres can slip off if they are old. They should get new tyres this time for those who have old tyres."
Road users should reduce their speed and be vigilant for upcoming vehicles. People should drive as if they are the only ones who know how to drive.
