Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Peoples Democratic Party PDP has won reelection, In Adamawa State.

In order to overcome Aishatu "Binani" Ahmed of the All Progressives Congress, who received 396,788 votes, Mr. Finitri received 430,821 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

After weeks of heated political activity and rivalry, Mr. Fintiri triumphed over Ms. Ahmed, who was vying to become Nigeria's first elected female governor.

Mr. Fintiri was leading with only 31,000 votes, a margin INEC said triggered a run-off because it was lower than over 37,000 eligible voters in places where violence and disruptions on March 18 caused cancellations. The election was initially held on March 18, but it was delayed for a second election on April 15 because Mr. Fintiri was leading with just 31,000 votes.

On April 16, however, as voting began to be finalised, Ms. Binani was unexpectedly named the election's victor by Adamawa resident electoral commission Hudu Yunusa Ari without the use of any official results.

The INEC headquarters in Abuja promptly denounced his actions, suspended him, and requested that he be arrested and charged for violating the law. As of Tuesday afternoon, Mr. Yunusa Ari's whereabouts were still a mystery.

The official results of the election were announced on Tuesday afternoon by returning officer Muhammad Laminu Mele, a professor and deputy vice chancellor of the University of Maiduguri. This cleared the way for Mr Fintiri to serve a second four-year term as governor of the northeastern state.
