The EFCC charged students at tertiary institutions on Thursday in Abuja to avoid internet fraud in order to accelerate national development.

According to EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren, the charge was given by anti-graft chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa at the inauguration of the Zero Tolerance Club at Baze University in Abuja.

Mr Bawa warned students that the penalties for internet fraud were severe, and he urged them to avoid any temptations that might lead them to join fraudsters.

"Every type of internet fraud, including romance scams, business email compromise, hacking, impersonation, Forex scams, and others, is corrupt, and you must not engage in it," he warned. "As undergraduates, you are expected to channel your creative energies into useful engagements rather than dishonest and dubious means of stealing from others."

Osita Nwajah, the EFCC's public affairs director, emphasised the importance of joining the club and encouraged students to read the 'Operational Manual for Integrity and Zero Tolerance Clubs,' which he presented to the school as a guide for the club's activities.

Another EFCC official, Aisha Mohammed, who heads the enlightenment and reorientation unit, told the students that the club's purpose was to instill in them the virtues of integrity, honesty, discipline, tolerance, and patriotism.

Ibrahim Mohammed, the university's registrar, emphasised the importance of being honest and charged students to avoid crimes and criminality at all costs.

"Integrity is the most important thing. Integrity may not provide you with money today, but it will put you on the path to success. Money always comes," the registrar said.

"It may not come in your early life, but if you work hard with integrity and perseverance, you will succeed; you will make more money than you ever imagined in your life," he added. You will be able to afford everything you desire while standing tall as an important and respected member of society without engaging in fraud."
