Auto spare parts traders in Lagos have endorsed Governor Babajide Sanwo-reelection Olu's bid in the March 11 gubernatorial election.

This was stated by traders of South-East origin at a forum held under the auspices of the Auto Spare Parts And Machinery Dealers Association (ASPAMDA) in Trade Fair Complex, Ojo.

Mr Sanwo-Olu, according to ASPAMDA president Ngozi Emechebe, is a "true friend of Igbo," noting that the Lagos governor has never been hostile to non-Yoruba residents living in the state.

Mr Emechebe stated that the forum was established to reassure the Ndigbo community of its support for the governor's reelection, and that the traders would work for Mr Sanwo-electoral Olu's victory in their respective polling stations.

"Sanwo-Olu is a good man who has shown that he is an Igbo lover. We have decided to back the governor for a second term based on his performance and economic policies that have benefited our businesses, Mr Emechebe explained. Through this forum, we assure the governor that we will sing the victory song with him."

Mr Sanwo-Olu began a campaign tour of major Igbo-populated markets on Tuesday, ahead of Saturday's gubernatorial election, following the open endorsement for his reelection by the APC.

"I am here on a solidarity visit and to thank you for your public endorsement of my humble self," Mr Sanwo-Olu said. "You are not endorsing anything we are doing. You believe we are deserving of this praise because my team and I have worked tirelessly to improve your health."

He assured Igbo traders of his government's commitment to their prosperity, adding that the state's recent approval for the development of Badagry Seaport was intended to facilitate economic development and improve logistics, particularly in the movement of goods.

"We will continue to work with your leadership to enhance cooperation and identify areas we can improve on to foster peace and stability. We will not be hostile to any non-indigenous community," the governor added, emphasising that as long as you conduct yourselves peacefully, your safety and security will remain our top priority."
