Amid the uproar over APC enforcer Musiliu 'MC Oluomo' Akinsanya's threat to stay at home Igbos who will not vote for the party in Saturday's governorship and state assembly elections, the speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has urged residents to vote peacefully.

Mr. Obasa issued a statement on Friday urging youths not to engage in thuggery, electoral violence, or any other act that could jeopardise peace.

"Our youths should not engage in anything that will disrupt the peace and tranquillity of the nation. They must conduct themselves honourably both during and after elections," said the APC legislator.

Mr. Obasa also urged parents and guardians to advise their wards and children not to cause trouble during the election, urging Nigerians not to let political differences lead to violence or other problems that could lead to the country's demise.

The Lagos Speaker, an ally of President-elect Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and MC Oluomo, remained silent on the latest threat against Igbos in Lagos.

"We pleaded with them. It is not a fight if they do not want to vote for us. Tell them, mama Chukwudi, that if you don't want to vote for us, you should stay at home. Sit down at home," MC Oluomo said in pidgin English in a viral Twitter video.

MC Oluomo, the leader of the Lagos motor park management committee, is well-known for commanding the militant wing of the ruling APC in Lagos, and his threat may deter would-be voters.

Following the shock loss to the Labour Party in the February 25 presidential polls, APC operatives have used a variety of tactics in the last week to prevent opposition parties and supporters from fully participating in the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.

Mr. Babajide has worked tirelessly to appease the Igbo community and disgruntled youths over the governor's handling of the EndSARS Lekki Tollgate massacre.

The Labour Party's unprecedented victory in Lagos has positioned its standard-bearer Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as a major challenger to APC governorship candidate Mr. Sanwo-Olu in Saturday's governorship election.
