Angry youths in Warri, Delta State, set fire to one of Access Bank's branches on Wednesday, protesting the continued scarcity of Naira notes, which has forced many businesses across the country to close.
This was captured in viral videos showing enraged youths disrupting vehicle movements and destroying valuable properties in the area around the Udu road axis.
A witness, @sabiboiharry, said on Twitter while sharing the video, "Breaking! Massive protests are taking place in Warri, particularly around the Udu road axis, in response to the CBN's decision to discontinue the use of the old Naira as legal tender. The Access Bank is on fire."
In a similar incident, SaharaReporters reported that angry youths in Abeokuta, Ogun State, vandalised one of First Bank's branches in protest of the Naira swap policy.
This was also captured on video, with protesters throwing stones and destroying some of the bank's property.
The Central Bank of Nigeria set February 10 as the new deadline for exchanging old naira notes for newly redesigned ones, after originally setting January 31.
Many Nigerians are currently unable to obtain the new N200, N500, and N1,000 notes, causing scarcity and suffering throughout the country. As a result, the state's youth and some residents staged a protest.
It was also reported that one of the protesters was shot during the protest.
