The Labour Party's (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has warned Nigerians not to hand over the country's governance to a "sick man" in next month's election.
"This country is sick and should not be given to a sick person. I'm not implying that anyone is ill.
"We've been here for more than two hours; we don't want people who can't stand for 30 minutes," Mr Obi said on Thursday in Enugu.
The LP candidate did not mention any names, but it was clear he was referring to Bola Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress candidate (APC).
Mr Tinubu is said to have health issues and has been seen stumbling at public events, prompting Nigerians to question his fitness for the top political position.
Mr Obi stated during an interactive session at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, that the next president of Nigeria must have two characteristics: character and trust.
He explained that the election next month must be based on competence as well as physical and mental energy. He stated that these are the requirements for leading a country like Nigeria.
"During elections in the United States, they go to debates. Someone once asked Barack Obama personal questions, and he responded.
"But here in Nigeria, somebody wants to contest elections, we don't know his real age, we don't know his name, we don't know the schools he attended. Nobody knows his true identity, and he is attempting to lead everyone," the LP candidate continued.
Mr Obi and Tinubu will run alongside 16 other candidates in the presidential election on February 25.
Despite fears that the election would be hampered by security issues plaguing the country, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured that it will go ahead as planned.
