Aminu Dantata |
The 91-year-old Aminu Dantata, a Kano elder statesman and business mogul, says he no longer enjoys life and wishes to depart this world faithfully.
Mr Dantata, asked for forgiveness from those he had offended, just as he had forgiven those who had offended him.
He stated this on Tuesday, when he received the All Progressives Congress (APC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Kashim Shettima, at his residence in Kano's Koki quarters.
He stated that he had travelled across Nigeria for many years, meeting people and making friends in almost every state of the federation, but could only name ten people who are still alive today.
"I have travelled to all the states in Nigeria and I have done things with people across all states, many were friends but sadly, of all the people I know, I hardly can call out 10 that are still alive.
"To be honest, I'm just waiting for my time right now. I no longer enjoy my life. I hope I leave this world on good terms.
"I hope I never offended anyone in my life. I hope that if I offended anyone, they will find it in their hearts to forgive me. I have forgiven anyone who has offended me.
"I am now the only one in my family who has grandchildren," he explained.
Mr Dantata, the uncle of Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, praised Mr Shettima for his visit.
Mr Shettima, who was in Jigawa and Kano states for consultations, said the visit was intended to reach out to elder statesmen in both states about ongoing development projects in the northern region ahead of the 2023 general elections.
On Monday, he visited Jigawa and met with the Emirs of Hadejia, Adamu Abubakar-Maje; Dutse, Nuhu Muhammad - Sunusi; Gumel, Ahmed Muhammad-Sani; Kazaure, Najib Husseini-Adamu; and Ringim, Sayyadi Abubakar-Maumud.
