Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila |
Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, says All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu will serve the interests of all parts of Nigeria if elected in 2023.
Mr Gbajabiamila made the remarks while speaking at the Surulere Constituency 2 APC Town Hall meeting on Saturday in Lagos.
He stated that the APC presidential candidate is passionate about Nigeria's development and that if elected, he will care for all of the country's people.
"One thing I can assure all Nigerians is that when Asiwaju Bola Tinubu becomes the president of this country, he will be president for all.
"He will look after the Yoruba, the South South, the Igbos, the Nupes, and the northerners.
"He is the only candidate who has demonstrated success. He has the ability and will deliver," Mr. Gbajabiamila stated.
The Speaker specifically urged Igbos to vote for Tinubu in order to propel the country forward.
He claimed that it was unjust for Igbos not to vote for Mr Tinubu simply because he is not from the South-East or any other region other than his own.
Mr Gbajabiamila said Mr Tinubu had done well for the Igbos and urged people in the South-East to give him their full support as the country's leader.
"To our South East brothers and sisters, has Asiwaju done anything to offend anyone in the South East? Is there anything wrong with him?
"Tell me one state in Nigeria where you have a non-indigene in the cabinet. I can tell you that Lagos is the only state where this occurs.
"What is the name of Nigeria's Director-General of Budget Office, one of the highest positions in the country? Akabueze, Ben. Is he a Lagos native? No, he's from the South East, and Asiwaju assigned him to that position.
"He makes the budget. Whatever money any agency or department requires, it must come to Akabueze's table. He makes the decision to give or not to give. Asiwaju Tinubu appointed that man from the South East.
"And I have many more names to give you. So, why will a man who has done much for the Igbos now come to you for votes, and you tell him that he has not done badly, that he has done well, but that we have someone from the South East to vote for because he is not from the South East? "I don't think that's the way to go," he said.
Mr Gbajabiamila stated that the 2023 election is about the country's progress and urged Nigerians to vote for competence rather than tribe or religion.
