CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi |
CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police Force Public Relations Officer, has stated that it's a disrespect to Nigerian for civilian to confront or retaliate against police officers, even if the officer slaps him/her.
Speaking on Twitter, the Force PRO advised any victim of police brutality to file a complaint with the appropriate law enforcement agency.
He was responding to a viral video that showed a man dragging a rifle with a police officer during a heated argument and suspicious molestation over his phone.
Adejobi went on to say that assaulting police officers in uniform would be considered a "act of disrespect to Nigeria."
"Even if a police officer in uniform slaps a civilian, the civilian has no right to retaliate," he said. Furthermore, beating an officer in uniform is an act of disrespect to Nigeria.
"The disrespect is directed not at the officer but at our nation, and it is a crime as defined by our criminal laws."
"So, it's not what the cop did that caused it, but the reaction of the civilians who actually assaulted the cops."
"If a police officer assaults a civilian, you report him, and actions will be taken to reprimand him, not to take the law into your own hands." (sic)
"It's a matter of phone checks, which can be easily reported and addressed." They are currently being held in our 5-star hotel in Lagos and will appear in court on Monday.
"Are you going to pay them a visit, send them food, or defend them in court?" Don't support anything bad, okay?"
