The National Association of Nigeria Students Kwara Chapter has threatened to stage a peaceful protest at the Kwara airport if the Academic Staff Union of Universities' strike is not called off.
Mr Salman Issa, Chairman of NANS Kwara, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Ilorin that members were simply waiting for directives from the NANS national secretariat.
Issa stated that once the national student body issues the order to the remaining 36 states, they will comply with the protest.
According to NAN, the Kwara NANS chairman was reacting to the NANS's blockage of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos in order to put pressure on the government to end ASUU's seven-month strike.
Due to the strike, the students' national body had previously threatened to ground activities at local and international airports across the country beginning Monday.
According to him, the National President of NANS is using dialogue and engagement with key stakeholders to resolve ASUU's lingering strike.
"The protest directives are only binding on the South West states where the protest has been ongoing for the past five days."
"When given a directive, we will comply," he stated.
Speaking with NAN, Mr Isaac Adeleye, General Secretary of Unilorin SUG, stated that the union is researching the best possible ways to deal with the situation and that they are deliberating on it.
"We're working with the NANS Kwara axis to see what happens next," he said.
