The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has urged the National Association of Nigerian Students leadership to reverse its decision to occupy the country's airports beginning Monday in protest of the Academic Staff Union of Universities' prolonged strike action.
The appeal was made in a statement signed by the group's National Coordinator, Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi, and National Secretary, Dr. Nasir Balogun, and made available to our correspondent on Sunday.
It was argued that street protests leading to the blocking of federal highways, access to airports, and flight disruptions would result in a breakdown of law and order.
The MMWG stated that when lawful protests were launched in Nigeria, miscreants and unpatriotic elements usually hijacked such lawful protests to wreak havoc on the people, as seen during the #EndSARS protests two years ago.
It therefore urged Nigerian students to allow peace to reign by showing a little more patience while waiting for the crisis to be resolved.
The group also urged President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) to take immediate action to end the Federal Government/ASUU impasse in the best interests of the students and the country.
