Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as 'Sunday Igboho,' a self-proclaimed Yoruba nation freedom fighter, has bemoaned the country's unabated killings and high level of insecurity under President Muhammadu Buhari's current administration, saying the country could not witness peace with the current situation.
He, on the other hand, urged all Yoruba sons and daughters to consider establishing their own independent nation and reclaiming their rights, claiming that Nigeria is not for the Yoruba.
Igboho, who spoke with Vanguard yesterday through his spokesperson, Mr. Olayomi Koiki, in the midst of various unrest in the country, stated that he would continue to educate the people, particularly the Yorubas, about the 1914 amalgamation that was forced on 371 ethnic groups in what is now known as Nigeria.
"We don't think anyone should talk about elections with insecurity in Yorubaland and the forged 1999 constitution," he said. Yoruba should consider establishing our own independent nation in order to reclaim our rights.
"We will not compel anyone to vote, just as we did not in Osun and Ekiti." However, we will continue to educate our people about the 1914 amalgamation that was forced on 371 ethnic groups in what is now known as Nigeria.
"The Chief is in good spirits, and he continues to want the Yoruba people to leave Nigeria peacefully." Whatever Chief Said has now occurred in Yoruba land.
"With the current state of affairs, Nigeria cannot have peace." Why? We lack union and unity because we are all unique."
"Having a Yoruba nation is a priority, and we will not take away the rights of other indigenous people who want to live on our land as long as our constitution is respected."
"And I'd like to reiterate that the Yoruba nation awareness campaign is returning soon." We are also anticipating the next United Nations General Assembly for the next protest."
"Over five million petitions have been submitted." According to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Indigenous Peoples, our campaign will remain peaceful," he explained.
