Following the threat of an attack, the Jigawa State government has ordered the closure of all public primary and secondary schools.
Lawal Yunusa, the Commissioner of Education, confirmed this to Channels Television in Dutse, the state capital.
"An intelligence report was received by the state government that states, particularly those with international borders, are prone to attacks," he said.
Channels Television's correspondent observed boarding students carrying their luggage as they made their way to their parents' homes while visiting some public schools in the capital. Others were left stranded due to the abrupt closure.
When asked about the private schools and higher education institutions that were still open, the commissioner stated that the state government had informed them of the threat, but that "we allow them to close on their own time."
