Jeremiah Ode, 45 years old man, of Igwe Ochekpo in Benue state's Oju Local Government Area, LGA, has been arrested for the alleged gruesome murder and beheading of Mrs. Priscilla Adoga, 65, whose head he used for pepper soup.
The suspect, a mental patient, was accused of committing the heinous crime while working on his victim's farm, where he murdered her.
He was said to have been apprehended by locals who went looking for the woman after she was declared missing, while he was eating the deceased's body part that he had already cooked.
Arrested before a Chief Magistrate Court, the Prosecuting Police Officer, Inspector Omaye Ujata, told the court in his First Information Report, FIR, that the incident occurred last Friday and was reported to the police by one Silas Igiri of Oju LGA.
According to the report, "the accused attacked the victim, his uncle's wife, with a machete in a farm where she was working at the time, killed her, and beheaded her."
The Prosecutor informed the court that "the accused confessed to committing the crime in his statement."
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Regina Alagh, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi, and adjourned the case until November 11, 2022.
