The release of two of its members, Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel (Agbogidi), who were kidnapped in Enugu State, has been confirmed by the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
The Guild's Director of Communication, Monalisa Chinda Coker, informed the public on Wednesday that the abductors were "touched by the spirit of God" and released the Thespians.
"This is to inform the public that the kidnapped actors, Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornel, have been released, unharmed," the statement said in part. Ejezie Rollas, the elated National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, announced their release by abductors who were touched by the spirit of God to set them free and unharmed.
"The guild has arranged for medical examinations and psychological counseling for the victims."
"On behalf of their families, the National President thanked the Nollywood industry and Nigerians in general for their support and prayers during this trying time."
"He urged members to be security conscious both on and off set, and to always take precautionary security measures at all times."
Okereke and Agbodigidi were declared missing on Saturday after family members were unable to contact them following their work on a film set.
Their kidnappers later reached out, demanding a $100,000 ransom, which the Guild's National President, Ejezie Rollas, stated in an interview with Sunday Scoop could not be raised.
According to Rollas, despite raising N1.2 million, the abductors mocked their efforts.
