Controversy as Kano resident insists that the explosion that killed nine people on Tuesday at Aba Road, Sabon Gari, Kano State, Was not a gas explosion but it was a suicide attack.
It was reported yesterday that the explosion happened around 9am which brought down a whole building and also affected some parts of a school.
Sama'Ila Dikko the commissioner of police Kano state, had earlier told newsmen that it was a gas cylinder explosion
"They said it was a bomb explosion but sincerely it was not a bomb explosion, it was a gas cylinder explosion."
Lennie Ujaja Director, Winner Triumph Academy, told Arise News in an interview that it was not a gas explosion as stated by the police "it was a suicide bomber" claiming he saw him.
"It was a suicide bomber that came and I want you to pass this information across the way I'm telling you now, I was not a gas explosion. I was a suicide bomber we saw him so that is the fact but God intervened."
An eye witness Godspride Timothy who is also a teacher in the school said he is not sure why the government is trying to convert the trust.
"After our assembly in the morning I was in the class teaching the students all of a sudden we heard a sound and on reaching here we saw some dead bodies around.
"What we are hearing I'm the News now is that the government is saying it's a gas explosion, while what we saw and what we heard was a bomb blast. As an engineering student, I know what is gas and I know what is bomb explosion," he said.
Timothy further said, "I don't see the reason why the government will be telling us it's a gas explosion when we know the truth. So I don't know whether they are covering their shame or their insecurities in the state."
National Emergency Management Agency NEMA insisted that it was a gas explosion as stated by the police.
"Those people are not expats, you know there was an EOD of the police department, they made their investigation and they found evidence that showed that it was a gas explosion. Because it's a welding shop." he said.
Adding that the people were not aware the place was a welding shop.
