Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Igboho, a Yoruba
Nation campaigner, have been freed from Benin Republic custody.
The PUNCH
gathered that Igboho was released to Prof. Bnaji Akintoye the foreman and leader
of Yoruba Self- determination Group, Ilana Omo Oodua on Monday.
Igboho was received in the presence of Wale Adeniran, the deputy to Akintoye.
Maxwell Adeleye the group’s Communications secretary said,
Akintoye had described the release of Sunday Igboho as a victory of truth over darkness
in Yoruba land.
Sunday Igboho who was fighting for the liberation of the Youruba
nation from the torment of the herdsmen. His house in Ibadan was raided by the Department
of State Services on July 1, 2021, where two of his aides were killed and other 12 arrested who were later released after several months of detention at the DSS
headquarters in Abuja.
The DSS declared him wanted for arm stockpiling alleging that
he intend to threaten the peace of Nigeria, this he totally denied, he escaped
to Benin Republic in July, 2021.
Unfortunately for Igboho, he was arrested on the 19, July 2021
with his wife at Benin Republic Airport by Interpol where the were both were trying to board
a flight to Germany.
His wife was released few days after but He (Igboho) was detained in Benin Republic prison, while he faced trial on several charges related to immigration-related offences.
Meanwhile Akintoye who had not rented since the arrest of Igboho
announced his release later today.
Various supporter of Youruba Nation, had gone on social media
to congratulate Igboho for the release.
