Update: Lagos-Badagry expressway: Call to Release Arested Drivers

By: Newspeddlers

The Nigeria Police Force, Ijanikin Division, has arrested the Lagos-Badagry drivers who are on a peaceful protest on how they have been unjustly treated by the NURTW and RTEAN.

The protest degenerated to chaos yesterday where the NURTW and RTEAN destroyed some vehicles and injured some drivers

The drivers union embarked on the protest because of the extortion through incessant payment of countless fees by so-called  officials of National Union of Road Transport Workers and Road Transport Employers' Association(popularly known as Agberos) of Nigeria   at every busstop from Seme-Badagry to Mile 2.

New fees imposed by the officials of these unions.

That none of them  are members of both the  NURTW and RTEAN as they enjoy no benefit howsoever from them despite paying daily dues in different ways and that none of the Union Officials (also known as Agberos)  are Transporters  themselves.

That the Transporters want the government to recognize them as the original owners of the two association and not thugs who are parade themselves as officials of the Unions but are collecting agents for the fat cats in the two unions.

That these  thugs beat up the drivers and Bus-conductor couple with damaging their vehicles.

Newspeddlers gathered that both the Thugs and Union Officials arrived the scene of the protest at the  same time and the Police started shooting in the air,  beating people while the thugs who were fully armed were shelling the driver with stick, stones, Cutlasses and shooting at the same time. That the thugs went ahead,  kidnapped some of the drivers and ook them to an unknown destination.

Two drivers Wasiu and Stanley, were arrested in the prcess for participating in the protest. Both are currently in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force, Ijanikin Division in Oto-Awori axis of Lagos.

"I call on the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu to release them forthwith" Mr. Ayo Ademiluyi ESQ said.
