Lagos-Badagry transporters role our their Demands

The peaceful protest which started last week Wednesday March 3, 2021 to March 9, 2021, eventually became chaotic along Lagos-Badagry expressway today.

The protest was In response to what the drivers referred to as intentional extortion. By the National Union of Road Transport Workers(NURTW) and Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria(RTEAN).

Comrade  Jude Ogunmola, the Chairman of Mega City Transport Association said "We were making arrangement to inform the police and other security agencies, on our next line of action. Before the thugs led by Amburger, who work directly under Jaffo controlled RTEAN stormed our meeting venue. With some unidentified police men with guns at Iyana Era Bus Stop, beating up some of our drivers, destroying some of our vehicles and shooting guns into the air sporadically".

He further stated that "The RTEAN also know as Agbero kidnapped some of our drivers and took them to unidentified destination".

Baba Imole the Spokesperson Meger City Transport Association said "we want to make it clear to the public and the government of Lagos State that:
1. The National Union of Road transport worker (NURTW) and Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) are not our representatives as non of our drivers are members of the two unions.
2. That we pay ticket at every bus-stop and those Agbero’s do not have bus on the road.
3. That the harassment of the Agbero’s on the driver is becoming alarming and worrisome such that the agbero’s beat the drivers and bus-conductor, couple with damaging their vehicles.
4. That there should no national and state ticket.
5. That the high cost of ticket is what is resulting to the high cost of transportation in Lagos State.
6. We are tired of making of making the masses pay exorbitant cost of transportation. 
WE RESOLVED AND DEMAND AS FOLLOWS:  
1. We shall not give up until our demands are met.
2. That Lagos State Government, Commissioner of Police and Commissioner of Justice should look into this matter of violation of our fundamental Human Rights of freedom of association and expression.
3. We refused to be forced into slavery in the name of union.
4. That the Lagos State should create a platform where the genuine transporters can register with the State for the good of all.
5. That we can no longer pay to NURTW and RTEAN.
6. That the high ticket fee of N7000 per day per vehicle is too much for us.
7. That they should release all our drivers kidnapped by the Agberos.
8. That they should treat all our injured drivers and compensate them.
9.  That all vehicles destroyed should be replaced.
10. That we are not against the government but for the government so Gov. Sanwo-Olu should live up to the oath of office he took.
